Designed by Boeing, the X-53 Active Aeroelastic Wing project was a flight research program that first flew in 2002 under NASA. The aircraft's purpose was to explore a flexible wing design to study maneuverability performance with a focus on high speeds and high-alpha flight profiles. The success of the X-53 may further advancements in next gen aircraft.
