The 1990's Joint Strike Fighter program was in full swing, and the creation of advanced technology had to be done by any means necessary. Fortunately, Lockheed Martin stepped in, offering their F-16 airframe to be used for new engine inlet designs. This F-16 would be a prime factor in the design of what is now the F-35 Lightning II.
